This is a fun, fast read from a new & talented writer. (Honestly, Alan Lee writes so well that it's hard to believe this is his first book.) The narrator's first person voice is unique: humorous, very dry wit, and clearly intelligent. There was good character development, great dialogue, and a fresh & interesting plot line. The villain scene at the end was a tiny bit over the top (IMHO), but still worked fine. I adored Mack August, the main character, and hope to see much more of him! Oh, BTW, there was a fair amount of spiritual/Christianity theme in this book that was presented in a completely non-religious or preachy way. I found it really appealing and believe both Christians and non-Christians would find worth in those passages. Some editing needed here & there, but not a deal breaker by any means. This one kept me turning pages long past my bedtime!Product details

The Last Teacher A StandAlone Mackenzie Mystery edition by Alan Lee Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
He is sort of sarcastic/sincere like Sherlock and a mix of Castle. But neither had the tiredness of seeing too much. Love this series and hope there is more to come!
This book examines the main character's new beginning as he leaves the LAPD and becomes a single parent.
As he starts his new life as a middle school teacher, he finds his new life has remnants of his old life.
This is an enjoyable read.
Loved Mackenzie, the good looking, brave and witty teacher. His remarks made the book very amusing. The perpetrator was a little over the top with his religious zealotry, but oh well. Still entertaining.
I enjoyed this book very much. Solid writing from a new author that is not only enjoyable but causes you to pause and question your own life decisions, not common in an enjoyable suspense novel. The main character is less super human than many of the more popular current action characters which brings him much closer to reality for the reader. I look forward to future books by this author and the further development of this character.
Compelling This stand-alone is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No graphic violence or drag-you-down drama. If you have read the previous books, this one is actually the start of the series, it was published last.
Intriguing storyline with plenty of twists. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking, informative and occasionally snarky dialogue.
I may re-read this story and look forward to other works by this author.
After reading the first two books of the Outlaw series and impatiently waiting for book 3, I decided I might as well give Alan's first book a shot...wow! Such a great read! I worried that it might be an unfinished series that would leave me with an eternal cliffhanger, but it's a very brilliantly written mystery that kept me guessing the whole way through & by the end of the book, the entire story was wrapped up nicely! Although I would love it if he decided to continue Mackenzie August's story!
Thank you Alan Lee. Exactly what I needed to read. I have read excellent British Detective books for many decades. The last one, by a well known author was long, which I like, and turned out to be really convoluted. You know, one of those books where someone's name or place is mentioned on page eighteen and then pops up again on page three hundred twenty-two. Anyway, I was impressed that my brain was still working after finally finding out who the bad guy was. Loved it. ....Then here comes "The Last Teacher" by Alan Lee. Whew. Fun, very exciting, nice.
Okay Alan, I ordered all three books. Read the first two already. You'll have to speed them up.
